Philips Sonicare AirFloss

Flossing- a daily activity that has been deemed with utmost importance, yet how many people do floss on a daily basis? Admit it, we have been preached time & again by our dentists, family, friends to floss daily, but we never or rarely floss because of laziness, flossing is a tedious process, we have not enough time & [insert excuses here].
Philips have come out with a solution that could defy all excuses- the Philips Sonicare AirFloss. a quick & convenient oral care device which is clinically proven to remove up to 99% of plaque from hard to reach place.
Flossing is done easy & efficiently with only a press of a button with Philips Sonicare AirFloss's air and micro-droplet technology  which promises to clean up to 5x more plaque between teeth than manual tooth brushing alone.
How does the Philips Sonicare AirFloss works?

"Aim" the nozzle guidance tip in between your teeth, and with a press of the button, a rapid burst of air & water droplets forces plaque & bacteria out, maximising plaque removal & improving gum health.

Each burst only takes a fraction of second. Amazing, isn't it? A tedious 10 minutes long flossing time can be reduced to one minute, with just a press of button.
Each "floss" only requires one or two teaspoon of water or mouthwash, which can be easily refilled at this little reservoir as shown above.
Features of the Philips Sonicare AirFloss:

  • Charging Time: 24 hours fully rechargable
  • Operating Time: 2 weeks or 14 full-months uses
  • Slim, angled nozzle for easy access to even the hard-to-reach areas
  • RRP: RM699, available at selected elecrical stores, dental clinics & soon in branded retail

Consumers are advised to change the nozzle every six months which comes in a pack of 2.

New Lunch & Dinner Menu @ Purple Pasta, Oasis Ara Damansara [CLOSED]

Remember my post about Purple Pasta's super affordable RM5 pasta? (If not, read about my first visit to Purple Pasta HERE)

Good news, as the RM5 pasta is now a permanent item on their Lunch menu, with more choices available now! Furthermore, Purple Pasta will be launching a dinner menu soon but only on reservation basis to ensure the food quality and presentation. I was really honoured to be the first few to sample their artisan , fine dinning dishes.

Lunch Menu

Purple Pasta lunch menu focuses on great, affordable food item. Here's a snippet of what they serve for lunch!
Garden Salad RM8
A simple salad consisting of fresh crisp lettuce, juicy cherry tomatoes, arugula, crunchy croutons, finished off with a touch of parmesan & mayo.
Lamb Mariana RM5
Spaghetti with tomato puree, herbs & a homemade juicy lamb meatball
I find the mariana sauce tad too sweet for my liking & the meatball looks a little lonely there but hey, it's only RM5 so no complains.
Authentic Carbonara RM5
Spaghetti tossed in Olive Oil, Parmesan, Oregano & topped off with a poached egg. 100% authentic carbonara, 0% cream.
Egg was perfectly poached, with the yolk bursting out graciously as we poked it. Mix it up and here you have it, a healthy, authentic Carbonara pasta that only cost RM5! I enjoyed this dish a lot, it wasn't cloying at all & flavours were kept minimal - just the way I like it. Some may find this dish tad tasteless though, but it's all up to preferences :)

Dinner Menu

The dinner menu have yet to be launched but do follow their FB page to get the latest update. Purple Pasta aim to serve affordable yet well-presented fine dining food during dinner time, and it will only be served ON RESERVATION BASIS.
Salmon Tartare
Cubed Salmon Gravalax with Apple chunks mixed with mayonnaise & Ebiko, torched to bring the best out of its flavour.

Beautifully presented, and perfectly done. The Salmon Tartare indeed was an amazing start to our meal. I love the contrasting texture of the crunchy apple & tender salmon, blanketed with the creamy mayo + ebikko sauce mix.
Prawn Ceviche
A cold appetizer featuring prawns served with onions (boiled & frozen) to remove the pungent smell & retain its crunchiness. The prawns were too sour for my liking, but its all up to preference :)
Stuffed Chicken
Breaded chicken stuffed with Spinach & Walnut, garnished with mashed potato mixed with mashed pumpkin & cheddar cheese
The golden brown crust was crispy & addictive, and the chicken meat was delightfully tender. However, the stuffed chicken was a little bit too dry to be eaten on its own on my opinion. A great dish nevertheless.
Salmon Beurre Blanc
Fetuccini pasta served with a sweet alcoholic-based sauce, topped with ebiko & grilled salmon.
The salmon was perfectly grilled- It was flavourful, flaky & fresh & the crispy skin was really addictive. However, the combination of the savoury salmon with the sweet alcoholic sauce was a little too adventurous for me- I'd prefer if the salmon could go with a more savoury-base sauce.
Prawn Thermidor
Grilled prawn served on Blanch Asparagus, topped off with their signature home made Thermidor sauce & Thermidor foam.
The Thermidor sauce & foam is made out of cheese & milk foam & it was absolutely creamy & addictive- we loved it to bits. It complements the grilled prawns perfectly, and was even good to devour on its own.
Fra Diavolo
All of us unanimously agreed that this was the spotlight dish of the day. Fra Diavolo features fettucini pasta cooked till el-dente, in their homemade sauce composed of tomato puree , dark chocolate, creme, chili flake & generous chunks of mutton.

The sauce, despite the unusual combination of ingredients, was staggeringly flavourful & good. Creamy in texture, and bursting with savouriness with a tinge of sweet aftertaste, further enhanced by the tender chunks of mutton. This must be the best pasta I have ever tasted!
Caramel Banana RM9
The Caramel Banana cake piqued our interest among all the other cakes.
We find the chocolate moose layer smooth & creamy, and the chocolate sponge cake layer dense & rich. However, we couldn't taste much of the caramel- only a hint of caramel taste was detected by my taste buds. Nevertheless, it was a lovely dessert to end our great meal.

It you're looking for a place with decent & affordable food, or exquisite fine dining food with an affordable price tag, Purple Pasta have it all.

Little Wonton, TTDI

When I heard about this place in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, I knew that I have to give this place a try..
Little Wonton is located above Speedmart 99, same row as TTDI's Artisan Roast cafe (where, parking can be a nightmare, fyi).

As its name suggested, Little Wonton forte is, well, wontons, with a modern twist. Don't expect traditional dry/soup wonton mee to be served here! Read on to find out more!
The interior of Little Wonton was love at first sight. This charming, modern days Shanghai-inspired design cafe emits an irresistible cosy vibe. Traditional lantern, beautiful vintage metal poster featuring cheongsam-donned ladies, quirky mix & match of different coloured chairs. It was simply lovely.
The menu of Little Wonton- Little Wontons serves up an array of sweet & savoury wontons that you won't be able to find elsewhere. Health-conscious people would be delighted- all wontons at Little Wontons are air-fried, no oil is used in the cooking of the wontons!
Tick on what you want to order on the piece of paper provided on each table, and then proceed to the counter for payment. The food will be delivered to you shortly after ordering. Hooray to no service charges!
Charcoal Noodle- Roasted Creamy Sesame RM6.90
Charcoal noodle topped with shredded chicken, maize, hard-boiled eggs & chopped scallions, served with japanese sesame dressing.
The black charcoal noodle was irresistibly bouncy & chewy! Being a huge fan of Japanese sesame dressing, I loved how the creaminess & sweetness of the sesame dressing complements the noodle & topping perfectly. Guan Ren wasn't a big fan of this sweet & savoury combo though, I guess it all depends on personal preferences. Japanese sesame dressing lovers should not miss out this combo!
Air-Fried Wontons RM7.90 - Mushroom Onion Cheese
These wontons are simply delicious! These wontons are packed with creamy goodness of cheese with bits & chunks of mushroom & onion, wrapped with a layer thin , crispy, grease-free skin. We simply couldn't have enough of it- it was insanely addictive, without the guilt as it was air-fried!
Air-Fried Wontons RM7.90 - Chocolate Banana
We couldn't resist the temptation of these crunchy little wontons & ordered another bucket of 6. The banana chocolate is another combo that is too good to resist. The bananas were perfectly caramelized & coated with molten chocolate, paired up with the crunchy wonton skin = best dessert ever.

Inside Scoop, Damansara Jaya

The best ice-cream parlour in town, Inside Scoop, now has a branch in Damansara Jaya!
My favourite place to get my ice-cream & waffle cravings fixed ♥
Inside Scoop Damansara Jaya is located just right next to Jing Xuan Dim Sum, which is just a few blocks away from Chuup

The Damansara Jaya's branch has a larger compound that could fit more patrons than the Bangsar outlet (Read about my review on Inside Scoop Bangsar HERE!) Despite so, it did not solve the problem of the lack of seats for Inside Scoop's fans. The place was really crowded despite being a weekday night on the day of my visit, & we had to "fight" for a seat. The number of customers just keep increasing in number!
I really love the garden-themed interior of Inside Scoop, with swings & artificial grass spread across the wooden parquet floor that made us really feel as if we were enjoying out ice-cream at a park.
The iconic beautiful mural art at Inside Scoop Damansara Daya
Prices are the same as Bangsar's branch, and the flavours of ice-cream are rotated daily too.
Buttermilk Waffle with One Scoop of Ice-Cream (Cookie & Cream flavour) RM13.90
Crunchy & airy, a perfect companion to the creamy & absolutely wonderful ice-cream. What else can I say? Inside Scoop simply serves the best ice-cream ever ♥

The only downside? You got to leave after finishing your desserts or you'll get a nasty stare from the people who are waiting for you to leave to get your seat.

New Location of Yut Kee Kopitiam 鎰記茶餐室, Jalan Kamunting KL

[Non-Halal]
The famous Yut Kee Kopitiam @ Dang Wangi has shifted to a new location- just directly behind its old shoplot along Jalan Kamunting! Guan Ren & I finally visited this new location on a Friday afternoon at 3pm for a late lunch, in order to escape the crazy lunch crowd of Yut Kee.

(Read about my previous visit to Yut Kee's old location HERE!)
The pre-war & colonial charm of the new shop has been preserved. One can't help but to notice the same old-school tiles, traditional mirror, photos & also their menu board that has been moved in from the old shop in to the new Yut Kee shop.

The compound of Yut Kee is much bigger compared to the old shop, however, patron still have to share a table with strangers due to the ever-increasing crowd. So much for us delaying our lunch till 3pm!
Having moved to a bigger shop lot, an increase of price was inevitable, but I was glad that the price revision was reasonable (most price have been increased by RM1 or RM0.50, not double nor triple fold as I initially feared).
Pork Chop RM11.50
Deep fried pork cutlet served with brown sauce & a side of frozen vegetables & potato wedges.
Glad to say that Yut Kee's Pork Chop was still as delactable as I remember it- juicy, succulent & tender meat perfectly coated with a layer of batter. Ahhh, joy.
Roti Babi RM9
Egg-wrapped bread stuffed with caramelized onions, minced pork & lap cheong
The Roti Babi has more caramelized onions than minced pork, to my disappointment. Taste wise was okay, but Guan Ren didn't really fancy it. Price was a little steep for its portion.

Yut Kee now can cater more patrons but please, do drop by early to avoid disappointments & beat the crowd, especially if you want to have their Signature Roast Pork dish a try.

Rendezvous Corner, SS15 [CLOSED]

Located at the corner of one of SS15 busiest road is Rendezvous Corner (same row as peppercorn cafe, near to Gong Cha & Shakespeare), a half-a-year old restaurant that has two other long-standing branches in Kampung Pandan KL & Cheras
Rendezvous Corner has a beautifully landscaped outdoor seating which would be perfect for an evening & night date. Projectors are setted up here during night time & more than 20+ of sisha is served too. Of course, there's an air-conditioned indoor seating too for patrons to escape the unbearable afternoon heat while dining in the afternoon.

The menu of Rendezvous Corner is simply extensive- from western delight, to oriental one-plate dish like rice with meat & a delightful array of desserts, all with an affordable price tag. You can browse through their dinner menu HERE & lunch menu HERE
Latte RM7.80
Cappuccino RM7.80
Coffee here are all machine-made, hence the slightly lower price tag. Not a fan of the thick and "hard" froth & coffee tasted too mild for my liking.
Tropical Fruit Tea RM9.80
Apple, Orange, Passion Fruit & Lemon
Bursting with an array of sweet, natural fruit taste. Highly recommended! We couldn't get enough of this tea (the girls, specifically). Refilling of this fruit tea is not advisable as the taste of the fruit will be bland after the second refill.
The appetizers
Escargot (1/2 dozen) RM11.80
Escargot baked in garlic cheese sauce. The garlic cheese sauce was a delight to my taste buds. The aromatic garlic infused perfectly with the molten cheese, a perfect companion for the succulent escargot.
Potato Skin RM7.80
Potato loaded with generous amount of bacon, cheese & cream, baked till crisp perfection. I personally enjoyed this dish a lot- creamy & cheesy, a perfect starter to kick-start my appetite.
Fried Cheesy Chicken RM15.80
Breaded chicken stuffed with cheese & ham, deep fried to golden. Served with a side of coleslaw & criss-cross fries.
This dish was the spotlight of the day that won everyone's heart. The perfect combination of crispy breaded skin, tender & succulent chicken with savoury molten cheese oozing out as we sliced through the fried cheesy chicken.
Cheese Macaroni RM11.80
Macaroni & Cheese with a side of sausage. The macaroni was delightfully creamy & cheesy, a dish that is good to share as it'd be overly-cloying if one were to finish this on his own. Wished if the sausage could be substituted with ham or bacon.
Sweet & Sour Icy Chicken Rice RM9.80
An unsual combination of sweet & sour chicken & ice + lychee, served with a side of rice.
The hot & cold combination reminded me of Japanese Cold Soba, acceptable for me but the deep-fried breaded chicken was a little bit too hard, perhaps it was slightly overcooked. Nonetheless, I liked the flavourful sweet & sour sauce which was a perfect companion to rice.
Cheese Fondue Chicken RM16.80
Cheese Fondue, served with fried chicken, criss-cross fries, carrots, broccoli & a brioche bun
Each bite was sinfully satisfying. Ahh, what could go wrong with molten cheese?
Satay Fondue Chicken RM16.80
Similar to the satay celup concept in Melaka. However, the satay fondue was tad diluted to my liking, and I find the chicken satay a little bit too tough.
Chocolate Lava Cake RM6.80
Served with a side of ice-cream (we had Rum & Raisins), this is definitely the cheapest Lava Cake in town. The chocolate lava cake was decent, rich with chocolate & not too sweet. I wasn't such a big fan of their rum & raisins ice-cream but my lunch companions seem to enjoy it a lot.
Hi-Tea Set 2 RM20.80
Choices of 4 cupcakes, 4 mini cupcakes & 4 chocolate chip cookies served on a classic 3-tier stand with a very attractive price tag. All baked goods are freshly home-baked by the owner!
The chocolate chip cookie had the right amount of sweetness, could've been even better if there were more chocolate chips.
Mini cupcakes
Teh Tarik , Milo & chocolate cupcakes. (unfortunately, I can't remember which was which here)
(Anti-clockwise from front) Nutella Cupcake, Red Velvet Cupcake, Black Forest Cupcake & Milo Cupcake

Like the mini cupcakes, the cupcakes was moist & fluffy, not overwhelmingly sweet nor underwhelming sweet. I loved the chocolate base cupcakes- rich with chocolate taste, at the same time, not overly cloying. Just perfect. The smooth & creamy frosting complements the cupcake base perfectly.

If you're looking for a place with reasonably priced western food, Rendezvous Corner has it all. I'd personally recommend the cheese-based dishes (Cheese Fondue, Fried Cheesy Chicken & Escargot) as well as the home-baked desserts!
