La Cocina, Taipan Business Centre (Second Visit) [MOVED]

Moved to new address! Scroll below for new address :)

Two weeks ago, I received an e-mail from Mr Jega, the owner of La Cocina Spanish restaurant claiming that he has a surprise for me. I opened the e-mail, stared at the screen with a blank expression for about 10 second. "A complementary Paella Set for 2..." I pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming (I just woke up when I saw that e-mail)

It took me a while to digest that. About another 10 seconds later, I was jumping in joy, or somewhere in cloud ten (cloud nine is an understatement). La Cocina has always been my family's favourite place to dine in for any special occasion. We have been patronizing that place for 9 years and still counting. Apparently, Mr Jega read my blog post of my previous visit to La Cocina so he's offering me a complementary Paella Set as a token of appreciation!
So I (happily) replied Mr Jega, and made a reservation for a dinner for four with my family on a Sunday night.
Upon entering La Cocina, we were greeted warmly by their waiters. The interior of La Cocina was almost the same as it was years ago, with a few touch-up and add-ons, of course. But what I loved about that place still remains the same- the lovely Spanish Vibes in the restaurant. One couldn't help but to fall in love with this charming little restaurant.
Once we were seated, the friendly waiter lit the candle, creating a romantic ambiance.
Time to time La Cocina will feature a new/special item on their blackboard :) Their full menu is available on their Facebook page! (Link)
Fresh Lemon & Ginger Soda RM7.50
A mixture of soda & fresh ginger puree. It was my very first time trying this kind of drink and it hit the spot. Who knew that Ginger and soda could go so well together?
Sangria RM17
Classic Spanish Red Wine Cocktail with Citrus
Dad's favourite. He never fail to order this whenever we patronize La Cocina
Soup of the Day- Cream of Pumpkin RM6.90
The kid in me couldn't resist pumpkin soup so here I go again! The soup was creamy, and packed with wholesome pumpkin taste. The soup was further topped with some croutons to give it some crunch. Mum wanted to order another bowl of pumpkin soup but she was stopped by my brother in fear of not being able to finish all the food. Glad to say that the pumpkin soup improved a lot from my previous visit!
Best of all, the price remains reasonable ;)
After that came our tapas! In the same unique porcelain dish.
Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab
Crunchy on the outside, soft & tender in the inside. I couldn't get enough of this dish! It's really addictive, especially when paired up with the sweet & tangy garlic mayonaise dipping sauce!
Lamb Meatballs
Spanish Lamb Meatball served in tomato herb sauce
Forget fast-food restaurants/frozen meatballs. Once you tried La Cocina's lamb meatball you wouldn't think about "instant" meatballs anymore. The meatballs were so tender & soft- it was such a delight! The meatballs did not have any unpleasant "lamb" smell too which some people dislike.
Gratinated Eggplants
Gratinated eggplants with garlic tomato sauce, herbs & sprinkled with parmesan cheese
A delight for all eggplant lovers out there! Eggplants cooked till tender, served garlic tomato sauce which packed a punch of flavours.
Garlic Shrimps
Pan fried shrimps with lots of garlic, dried chilli & tomato sauce
I really love the tomato sauce served with the prawns! Bursting with aromatic garlic-y taste, the sauce lingers in my taste buds, leaving a really memorable taste. I'd really love to see a pasta dish with this tomato sauce as its base one day :D
Fresh Button Mushroom
Mushroom sauteed with Olive Oil, garlic & herbs
Probably my favourite tapas among all we ordered. The mushroom was sauteed till tender. As a took a bite off the mushroom,
Chickpea & Cheese Croquette
Mashed Chickpeas with vegetables, herbs & spice, encased with a coat of crispy panko deep fried into perfection. Served with their homemade chili sauce
Despite being deep fried, the croquette did not taste greasy at all. The croquette was soft & fluffy inside, with a prominent taste of curry powder. I couldn't really taste the cheese but it was still an enjoyable dish.
Fried Calamares
Crunchy & addictive - the two words I'd used to describe this dish. The dipping sauce served alongside with the calamaris was the same as the one served with the deep fried soft shell crab.
And one of the most important element of starters (at least to me)- the bread basket.
The bread was served warm, fresh & fluffy. It is also refillable without any additional charge. My family loved it so much we refilled our basket of bread twice. Perfect for dipping with the tapas sauce or served with the tapas.
And here comes the star of the night...the PAELLAS!
On the right- Paella Fidella Mariscos ; On the left- Paella Cordero
Paella Fidella Mariscos RM59 for 2 pax
A new dish in La Cocina, featuring angle hair pasta cooked with a generous amount of seafood & saffron.
The unique orange-yellow colour of this dish is produced by saffron- one of the world's most expensive herbs,
When this dish was served to us, a blank expression swept through our faces. Angel hair pasta...? This...?
Look closely..and you'll realize that it really is angle hair pasta. The angle hair pasta was sliced into short strands of noodles that resembles long grain rice! Isn't it unique? :D
The angle hair pasta was softer compared to the rice version. Each strand of noodles was absolutely flavourful, as throughout the cooking process, the "juice" from the seafood was absorbed by the noodles. It's a delight digging into this dish, as the amount of seafood given was really generous so I don't have to worry if my brother decided to hog all the meat :D
Paella Cordero RM70 for 2 pax
Spanish rice cooked with herbs and tender chunks of Lamb meat, marinated to perfection
We wanted to order our favourite Paella Negres but sadly, it was out of stock :( One must order the Paella Negres a few days in advance as La Cocina serves limited amount of Paella Negres every day to ensure the freshness of ingredients used. It was a blessing in disguise, as we get to try out another mouth-watering delight of La Cocina.
This dish has a similar taste to Paella Fidella Mariscos , except this one has lamb chunks (generous amount, I must add) in it and the texture of the rice differs from the angle hair pasta. The rice texture is slightly fluffier compared to the angel hair pasta. The rice version of Paella has a slightly crisp texture which I really enjoy.

I couldn't decide which one I like better as both dishes has their own unique taste & textures. Can I haz both ?
Crepe served with Orange Cream Cheese & Hazelnut Cream
Crepe folded with orange cream cheese & hazelnut cream, served on a bed of vanilla sauce
I was bloated when the dessert was served but I decided to give it a try anyways. I took a bite, and another, and another, and before I knew it, I ate more than half of the crepe. The warm & soft crepe, wrapped with the oh-so-creamy cream cheese with a tinge of orange taste, served in a pool of vanilla custard, was the bomb! Each ingredients complements each other so perfectly. A must-try!
Oh and La Cocina also offers special set lunch on weekdays, 12-3pm at a very affordable price (RM10.90-RM13.90!) Each set comes with a drink and soup of the day, would really like to check it out soon :P

Once again, I'd really like to thank Mr Jega & his team for their warm hospitality & generosity. I really enjoyed all the dishes served on that night, and of course, would be returning again :)

The Lord's Cafe, Cameron Highland

My family has a sorta yearly tradition to visit Cameron Highland during one of the weekends, thanks to dad's company who owns a Vacation English Cottage there. So for this year, we decided to visit Cameron last weekend to escape the heat!

So we drove there after my classes & brother's work last Friday! The places we visit every year is the same so let me introduce you my family's favourite places for onomnomnom in Cameron Highlands!

The Lord's Cafe
Formally known as the T Cafe, this humble little cafe is tucked on the second floor of the row of shoplots in Tanah Rata (above Marybrown). The little cafe has drawn attention of tourist all over the world for its SCONES!
Their scones & pastries are freshly baked every day, and even though their opening hour is stated till 10pm, their scones are usually only available till about 3pm as it sells like a hotcake & get out of stock fast!
The Full Menu. We were told by the owner that The Lord's Cafe no longer serve hot food due to shortage of manpower. They only serve pastries & teas now.
I really love the interior of The Lord's Cafe. So quaint, charming & peaceful, with the cold, fresh breeze of Cameron Highland blowing in, my mind was instantly calmed as I set my foot into this little cosy cafe.
Our order for the day. (And we just had breakfast 30 minutes before we visited this place)

Boh's Passionfruit Tea RM2.90
Fruity & Aromatic. Definitely my cup of tea :)
Cream Scone RM2.50
Note that they serve the scones with whipped cream rather than clotted cream. Rich & wholesome buttery aroma, flaky texture & warm scones, paired up with the fruity strawberry jam & airy whipped cream, it was a delight to my taste buds. The warm scone definitely won my heart.
Moist Banana Chocolate Cake RM3
The banana cake wasn't too cloying, and the addition of the fluffy whipped cream gives the cake a airy & smooth taste. One of the most affordable banana cake that I've ever had :p
Apple Pie RM3.60
The apples were soft & perfectly caramelized. Each bite packs a pleasant punch of caramelized sugar taste. The shortcake crust was flaky and crispy on the side. I loved this apple pie so much I devoured one whole slice by my own.

You can also opt to top the apple pie with a scoop of Vanila Ice-Cream! :)
Chicken Pie RM3.90
Like the apple pie, the chicken pie's crust was the bomb. So rich, flaky & with a slight crisps on the side. However, I didn't quite fancy the fillings, I felt that the fillings were a little too "Malaysian-ized" as the taste of certain herbs were too overpowering. My whole family enjoyed it though so it's a case of preference I guess :)
