Pages Book Cafe, Ara Damansara

Bookshops. I love them. I love the smell of books. They have this nice....earthy smell (not the best adjective - but how do one describe the smell of books?). Especially second-hand bookstores! I love the surprise element of not knowing what sort of treasure you can find in a second-hand bookstore.

Cafe. I love them. I love the aroma of freshly grounded coffee. I love the calm music usually played in a cafe.

And when you combine both of them together - that's my happy space.

And I'm so glad to have found this happy space - Pages Book Cafe.
I found Pages Book Cafe by chance when I was casually playing around on Google Maps (do people actually do this or just me? To randomly check out what's there in a particular area for fun). The reviews were stellar - a 4.7 star! and it is located not too far from where I stay so I decided to pay them a visit.
Pages Book Cafe is located at Taipan Damansara - a commercial area in Ara Damansara, just right opposite of Lotus (Formerly known as TESCO, if this name is much more familiar to you).

Special must-mention: Parking there was a breeze, even on a weekday - there were many street parking available. So that's a A+++ bonus, especially when living in the Klang Valley, parking is scarce and/or expensive.
Once you step into Pages, Book Cafe you'll be greeted warmly by the staffs, followed by the whiff of books-ish smell & the aroma of coffee (mmmmhmmm) and the sights of books, books. and more books!

There are books of different genres - children books, fictions, classics, cook books, travel books, arts & craft, non-Fiction....etc. etc. There seems to be a mixture of second-hand books and brand new books, and the prices are as low as RM5! I had fun browsing through the shelves! Always interesting to see what you can find :D You may stalk their Instagram account (@pagesbookcafe) or Shopee online shop to see what books are available!

A cosy corner at the back of the cafe.

Food & Drinks

I only had drinks during my visit there, but Pages Book Cafe do serve some pre-packed/Grab & GO food such as Nasi Lemak, pasta and pie which is heated up upon ordering. They also have some desserts such as butter cake and banana cake!

Prices are very affordable. I like :D
Chamomile Bloom RM9

Americano RM6

(Yes I know - RM6?)
Besides affordable pricing, a quiet & calm ambience, lots of parking spaces around, the service was great - the reviews I've read on Google Maps were true to its words - the staffs offered me drinking water, and offered to refill my tea even before I thought of asking them.

Certainly a place I don't mind coming again to either have some me-time, to do some work, or to catch up with a friend :)

Sip & Spin, Pacific Place Ara Damansara [CLOSED]

Looking for a place to chill while waiting for your laundry to be done? Sip & Spin, a new lifestyle laundry cafe located at Pacific Place, Ara Damansara (just right next to Sister's Place) has the solution for you!
Sip & Spin is currently the only lifestyle laundry cafe in Malaysia. As its name suggests, you can sip on your coffee while waiting for your laundry to complete its spin cycle at Sip & Spin!
The laundry area of sip & spin, which is located at the back entrance of the cafe. The rate for a wash cost RM7 while drying cost RM5.
The cosy & homey environment of Sip & Spin! Sip & Spin is the brainchild of three dedicated friends who decided to venture in to the cafe business. The menu at Sip & Spin is rather simple, a few western dishes, rice dishes, desserts and drinks (with value sets during breakfast, lunch and dinner!) and so on but they are planning to expand their menu in the future. Most food items are priced below RM10!
I absolutely adore the cute murals in Sip & Spin, which perfectly depict the concept of the cafe. Sip & Spin will be a delight to fans of cutesy and Instagram-able spaces.
Customers can feel free to grab a board game or book to kill time in Sip & Spin.
Mint Choco Bomb RM13.50
The Mint Choco Bomb was supposed to be ice-blended but it was served with ice due to some glitches on the day of our visit. According to my friend who tried this, he commented that the Mint Choco Bomb would be better if it was mintier.
Mocha (Regular) RM9
Green Latte (Regular) RM9
Matcha Latte. We find this a little too sweet for our tastebuds, but it is really all up to personal preferences.
American Breakfast RM10.90
The typical American Breakfast suspects - Toasts, Sausages (Black Pepper and Normal), Baked Beans, Salad and Omelette , with a slice of cheese.
For RM10.90, the serving size was decent and the omelette was well-executed.
Sunny Side Up RM10.90
Same as above, but served with Sunny Side Up instead of Omelette.
Chicken Cumin Rice RM9.90
Rice cooked with cumin and topped with raisins and almond, served with chicken accompanied with Sip & Spin in-house homemade sauce made out of lemon grass, spices and honey.
I loved the fact that breast meat is used instead (yay for boneless and meatier chicken!). The sauce accompanying the chicken was flavourful with spices, however, we thought that it was the sauce leans more towards the sweeter side. Again, it is all up to preferences.
Spaghetti Aglio Olio RM8.90
Served with mushroom and pepper. A simple pasta dish that is friendly to the wallet.
Choco Ice-Cream RM8.90
Waffle served with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice-cream.

If you're looking for a place to read a book or use the internet while waiting for your laundry to be done, or a quick and affordable dinner around Ara Damansara, Sip & Spin will be the place to be.

Sisters Place, Pacific Place Ara Damansara

Curry mee, fried rice, Char Koay Teow, Chee Cheong Fun, Hokkien Mee. Malaysian's hawker favourite all under one roof, and it is pork free! Truth to be told, I was always skeptical when my Char Koay Teow is pork-free but Sisters Place Char Koay Teow changed that perspective of mine!
Sisters Place is located at Pacific Place, Ara Damansara. A little hard to locate but a simple Google Search would do the trick and trust me, it is worth the hunt! Pacific Place is located right in front of RapidKL HQ. Parking is free for now at Pacific Place :)

Sisters Place is managed by Eugene, a passionate Penang-born young man who is also one of the chef here. Sisters Place at Pacific Place is actually the second branch of this family business! The first outlet is locate at USJ 16 Subang Jaya (near Sri Melur) and is currently managed by his father, Mr Ray.

Sisters Place has all the usual suspect of a Malaysian Kopitiam - from rice dishes like Nasi Lemak, porridge, and meat + rice dishes, to noodles like Chee Cheong Fun, Char Koay Teow and curry noodle, as well as roti bakar (toasted bread) sets and yong tao fu!

The USJ 16's branch has the same menu, but food there have a lower price tag as the branch at Pacific Place has a nicer environment, equipped with marble tables, air-cond and a cleaner & more comfortable environment.
Sisters Special Char Koay Teow RM13.90
Signature seafood char koay teow, loaded with extra squid, cockles and prawns. Choose from Mee, Bihun, Koay Teow or a mixture of two noodles.
Definitely the best pork-free Char Koay Teow I have ever had! Each bite was full of "wok-hei" and promises at least one bite of seafood - that's how generous Sisters' Place are with the seafood! Pricing might be slightly on the steeper side but rest assured, it was worth every single cent!
Penang Curry Mee RM8.50
Another favourite at Sisters Place. This bowl of creamy curry goodness was a delight to my taste buds! The curry is on the sweeter side due to the addition of milk powder. The curry soup wasn't too thick nor cloying, I could easily down the whole bowl of soup myself!
Sisters Fried Rice RM8.50
A crowd favourite at Sisters Place which is a hit among students. I personally find this dish tad dry but then again it is up to personal preferences :)
Curry Chee Cheong Fun RM8.50
Fragrant lemon grass infused curry chee cheong fun loaded with generous amount of chicken meat . If you're a fan of lemon grass this dish would be a delight for you! The curry was really fragrant and the taste of lemon grass stood out prominently,  I love how generous Sisters Place is with the meat!
Penang Hokkien Char RM8.50
I've never had Penang Hokkien Char so I couldn't comment much on this. I initially thought that Hokkien Char was the same as KL Hokkien Mee but turns out it was two completely different dishes! The Penang Hokkien Char served here at Sisters Place leans towards the sweeter side. Customers can choose from Bihun, Mee, Koay Teow, or a mixture of two noodles.
Herbal Tea, Cham & Kopi-C Kosong

Verdict: Really good pork-free Malaysian hawker favourite! Go for the Sisters Special Char Koay Teow for extra seafood and give their curry mee a shot! :)

MT Latte, Dataran Ara Damansara [CLOSED]

MT Latte, a new cafe in Dataran Ara Damansara, opened by a team of husband & wife with a great passion in coffee & food.
The discrete Dataran Ara Damansara shop lots area may be a little hard to locate, Waze or Google Map may come in handy. Located amidst car workshops , MT Latte has a striking signboard which is rather hard to miss , with the bold wordings and yellow & black stripes margin of the sign.

Expect smiles & greetings as you step inside this humble little cafe. Owner Nichole greeted everyone with utmost enthusiasm as they set foot into MT Latte. The compound of this cafe is slightly small, which gets a little pack with families during lunch hours in the weekend.

One couldn't help it but to admire the creative interior of MT Latte, which was meticulously crafted to suit the theme of construction & engineering which depict the major that Nichole's husband graduated from university.

Nichole is a self-taught barista. Her love and passion towards coffee brought her here today. MT Latte uses Degayo Dark Roast beans for their coffee.
Expect an array of local, western & fusion food served at MT Latte. Nichole stated that most of the food served here are inspired by her childhood's favourites, and all recipes & crafted by her & her family.
Speculous Latte (Hot) RM9.50
The Speculous Latte was the first thing on the menu that caught my attention. A simple google search reveals that speculous is a type of shortcrust biscuit which compose of different kind of spices. Feeling adventurous, I decided to give it a go- & I loved it!

Nichole did warn me that the Speculous Latte is not a drink for anyone. If you're a fan of Speculous Latte go for it!
Cappuccino (Hot) RM8.50
Roasted Hazelnut Latte (Cold) RM10.50
Nasi Lemak Sandwich RM12.90
Two slices of "Roti Bakar" (Toasted Hainanese Bread) sandwiching a thick-cut deep fried Chicken, sunny-side up, lettuce, ikan bilis & roasted groundnuts. Served with a side of MT Latte homemade sambal

The crunchy fried chicken, creamy egg yolk, savoury ikan bilis & their special homemade sambal went together perfectly. Their special homemade sambal was the spotlight of the dish- with the right level of spiciness and tangy-ness which hit the spot.

However, we thought that the fried chicken could need a little more seasoning- it tasted mediocre when eaten on its own.

Stewed Lamb served with Rice or Bread RM18.90
Slow-cooked Lamb cooked with carrots, cherry tomatoes & mushrooms
Nichole explained that the stew lamb was her family's secret recipe, which was clearly a crowd-pleaser. Each chunk of lamb was perfectly marinated & tender, bursting with flavours with each bite.
MT Breakfast Platter RM18.90
Choice of Sunny Side Up/Scrambled Eggs/Poached Eggs, popcorn hash brown, baked beans, chicken sausage & ham, roti bakar and a side of salad. A simple East meets West version of a big breakfast. I personally find the scrambled eggs overly salty.

Wow Fried Chicken with Thai Sauce
Crunchy fried chicken with a touch of orient. Nothing much to shout about.
