Tulip by That Latte Place, Sunway Pyramid [Non-Halal]

Once upon a time, there was this cafe called That Latte Place that served really decent breakfast and brunch food, amidst the lush green scenery of Yayasan Seni at KL City Centre. Sadly, That Latte Place was forced to relocated due to some unforeseen circumstances.

After moving out from its beautiful, close-to-nature premises about two years ago, That Latte Place has since expanded to three other branches, one in Cheras Ikon Connaught, Map's Cafe in Bandar Sunway (Read my write-up of Map's HERE), and the latest branch Tulip by That Latte Place at Sunway Pyramid, which is so much closer to my place now!

Tulip is located at LG of Marrakesh, just a few shops away from Dip n Dip! Just like Map's Cafe, Tulip is a non-halal restaurant. Map's Cafe focuses more on the breakfast and brunch crowd, whereas Tulip covers a wider range of food & beverages, from all-day breakfast, to mains such as pasta and pork-y dishes and also craft beers!
Tulip by That Latte Place has a children's corner equipped with tents and play sets such as bowling sets, colouring sets & much more - a child's dream (and also a child-in-heart's dream!)
Signature Pork-Chetta RM25.90
Home-Roasted Porkchetta, crunchy skin-on pork belly (approx 200g) rolled and marinated in a blend of herbs and spice, served with greens and herb-infused pork gravy on the side.
A must-try! A huge generous slab of crunchy crackling pork skin, encasing the tender and juicy meat that is well-flavoured & will certainly leave you craving for more.
Oh-My-Ribs! RM35.90
Ribs (approx 500g) seasoned in rich spice rub & homemade BBQ sauce, served with fresh green on the side.
The ribs had a sweet and spicy notes which kicks in well. Decent, but not the best I've had - it is all up to preferences.
Bacon Baked Egg RM18.90
With mushroom, capsicum, bacon, Mozzarella cheese in house-made special red sauce, served with homemade toast.
A simple baked egg dish that was well executed - eggs were still runny when I dig in and amount of cheese were generous.
"Siu Yuk" Egg Ben RM19.90
Poached egg on house made Roasted Porchetta and toast, served with Hollandaise sauce, with a side of sauteed button mushroom and greens.
One of my absolute favourite - You've had the typical Eggs Benedict served with ham or bacon, now try one with a huge & thick cut of crispy on the outside, moist and meaty on the side Porchetta! The crackling & crunchy Porchetta skin complements the creamy Hollandaise sauce perfectly, with some greens and mushroom on the side to mellow down and perhaps reduce your guilt level in savouring this sinfully delicious dish.
Bruschetta Melt Combo RM23.90
A combination of (from left) bacon, mushroom and smoked salmon Bruschetta, blanketed under Mozzarella cheese.
Creamy Salted Egg Carbonara with Crispy Battered Chicken – RM18.90
Calling all salted egg yolk fans out there! A new item in Tulip. I thought that the pasta was done right - creamy with a subtle taste of salted egg yolk. However, my dining buddy thought that the pasta lacked of the "Salted Egg Yolk kick". It is all up to preference I guess - I am not such a huge fan of salted egg yolk so the level of the "kick" was just nice to me.

Mocha RM10
Hazelnut Nutella Mocha RM13
Iced Coffee Float RM10
Flavoured Milk (Salted Caramel) RM8

Calling all discount-loving students! Flash your student card and you're entitled to a 20% dicount off your total bill. For non-students, fret not as Tulip also offers really affordable breakfast and lunch sets on weekdays (excluding public holidays).

Overall, Tulip by That Latte Place certainly lived up to my expectation, just like Map's. Personal recommendation would be the Pork-chetta and "Siu Yuk" Egg Ben. Price wise is still relatively affordable, given the fact that Tulip is located inside a concentrated shopping mall which is forever crowded.

Madam Kwan 9th Branch Grand Opening @ Sunway Pyramid!

Madam Kwan's 9th branch opened it's door to the public on the 16th of May 2015 @ Sunway Pyramid!

Madam Kwan now has 9 outlet throughout Klang Valley (Bangsar Shopping Center, Suria KLCC. Mid Valley, Pavilion, Empire Subang, Alamanda Putrajaya, One Utama & Sunway Pyramid!) which includes one Miss Kwan outlet at Suria KLCC, a more laid-back & casual outlet with a similar food menu & concept.
I was really fortunate to be invited to witness the grand opening of their 9th outlet here at Sunway Pyramid. The grand opening took place at 11am on the 16th of May 2015.

Golden scissors for the ribbon-cutting ceremony!

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by Datin Madam Kwan herself.
The opening ceremony was a bang , with lion dances, party poppers & cheers from the crowd.

Madam Kwan's Sunway Pyramid's branch was really spacious. Don't miss the Madam Kwan mural on the right side of the wall once you set foot into this branch!
Plenty of large tables are available here at the Sunway's branch to accommodate large groups, with a cage-like partition to give patrons some priacy.

The interior was cleverly designed, with a blend of traditional baba nyonya & vintage elements plus modern industrial look. The light and spacious space inside Madam Kwan's Sunway Pyramid branch gives the place a cheerful and airy vibes.

Chicken Satay
Tender & succulent chicken satay served alongside with peanut sauce, The chicken tender was really soft & tender, and it paired perfectly with the sweet peanut sauce. I loved how generous the chunks of meat were!
Chicken & Beef Satay
The beef satay was tender & succulent too, like the chicken satay.
Bean Sprout with Salted Fish RM17.90
Crunchy stir-fried bean sprout with salted fish.
Wok-Fried Mixed Vegetables RM20.90
Assorted vegetables wok-fried served with prawns, squid and chicken
Fried Chicken Drumstick RM10.90 each
Deep-fried chicken to golden perfection. Served in Nasi Bojari. The fried chicken was addictive, tender on the inside, nice and crispy on the outside.
Assam Prawns RM26.90
Succulent prawn cooked with sweet & spicy tamarind sauce. Usually served alongside with their Nasi Bojari.
Curry Chicken RM20.90
A dish not to be missed in Madam Kwan's. Served with Nasi Lemak. A dish that is prepared by Madam Kwan's herself daily! The curry was thick, rich and fragrant with aromatic coconut milk taste, with a spiciness that gives a kick. Recommended!

Char Kway Teow RM18.90
Flat rice noodle stir fried with chicken, prawns, squid, egg & bean sprout
Served with generous chunks of chicken, succulent prawns & tender squids, the Char Koay Teow here is full of "wok-hei", definitely another dish that is worth coming back for!

Craving for cakes or something sweet? Madam Kwan's serves cakes from Just Heavenly BSC as well as a wide range of local desserts such as Cendol & ABC!

Myeongdong Topokki, Asian Avenue Sunway Pyramid

When it comes to Korean food, what is the first thing that crosses your mind? Korean BBQ? Dak-Galbi? Kimchi? Shin Ramyun?

I have always been a fan of Korean food, be it sweet or spicy, BBQ or anything else. However, there are so little choices of Korean food offered here in Malaysia! Other than the usual Korean BBQ joint or Dak-Galbi restaurant, there's only a handful of Korean restaurants serving Korean food that isn't just specializing in Korean BBQ or Dak-Galbi.

Therefore, I was really thrilled when Myeongdong Topokki, a Korean street food restaurant specializing in Topokki (Korean Rice Cake!), opened at Asian Avenue, Suwnay Pyramid!
The wonderful array of Korean street food available at Myeongdong Topokki, Sunway Pyramid!
Myeongdong Topokki is a mini stall located at the food street of Asian Avenue that is akin to a Subway ticketing counter. For those of you who don't know, Myeong-dong is one of Seoul's main shopping & makan district. And now, we need not to fly all the way to Myeongdong for delightful korean street snacks!

The wide array of side dishes to pair up with your topokki served at Myeongdong Topokki. The kitchen crew of Myeongdong Topokki is being led by a Korean Chef to retain it's originality & authenticity, and suit the local's taste at the same time.
Besides that, Myeongdong Topokki also serves rice bowls set meal that comes with 3 banchan (side dishes) and a hearty bowl of seaweed soup.
How you eat a topokki- but of course, you can opt to eat the side dishes on its own too.
Rice Punch RM4.50
A refreshing, barley-like drink imported from Korea.
Topokki RM8.90 (Original & Challenge)
Korean rice cake served with half-boiled egg & sliced fish cakes, cooked in a home-made thick sauce.
I had the privilege to try out both the original flavour & challenge spicy sauce. Both flavours are good in their own way, but I personally preferred the challenge sauce, despite the big gulps of water & rice punch I gulped down after that. The original flavour sauce is slightly inclined towards the sweet side, whereas the challenge flavour is well, super spicy. But packed with a punch of flavour.

Please do only order the challenge only if you are a big fan of spicy food!!
The topokki (rice cake) were so chewy & bouncy! Best consumed when hot & fresh out of the kitchen as the topokki hardens up if left intact for a while.
Kimali RM7
Glass noodle wrapped in seaweed, deep fried with a perfect golden-yellow tempura skin
A unique street snack that offers a contrast of texture- nice & crunchy on the outside, flavourful & soft on the inside.
Mixed Vegetable Tenpura RM2.50 per piece
The golden gue tempura batter was addictively crunchy. However, I find the vegetables a little bit undercooked- probably due it being too thickly sliced.
Karage Chicken RM6.50
Crunchy on the outside, tender on the inside. Warning: a highly addictive snack that will provoke you to pop one piece after another into your mouth. The karage was really good on its own already.
Urban Sarada RM5.80 (Urban Salad)
Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, sliced avocados, apple slice, crab stick & ebiko, topped with one of the best homemade salad dressing I've ever tasted- homemade pineapple dressing! The pineapple dressing was sweet, zesty & tangy. It tasted really refreshing & healthy. I initially thought that the dressing was made out of yoghurt & mango due to the creamy & sweet taste but oh my I got it completely wrong. A must-try!
Bulgogi Daebap RM12.90
Generous amount of BBQ Beef Slices topped on a big bowl of fluffy Korean rice.
Each slice of beef was marinated to perfection & had an aromatic smoky taste. Each slice literally melted in my mouth, and was irresistibly tender. A perfect match for the fluffy premium korean rice that absorbs the flavourful & savoury sauce from the meat.
The Bulgogi Daebap (& also the other set meal) comes with a bowl of seaweed soup & 3 mini banchans. Myeongdong Topokki's homemade kimchi had the right balance of sweetness, spiciness & sourness on my opinion & was really enjoyable. The homemade anchovies too, were crunchy & had the right amount of sweetness. I didn't really enjoyed the pickled veggie because it was sliced too thickly.

Myeongdong Topokki is currently having a promotion where you'll get a free Topokki after you collect 3 stamps!
